5 day weather forecast for Preston Weather map for North West England. General Weather for Preston - authors view and unofficial. The overall influence for the weather in Preston is the Gulf Stream Drift which makes the weather mild for the latitude. Preston being located on the west side of the Pennine Hills gets moist and mild weather systems from the Atlantic which tend to drop their moisture on reaching land and the hills to the east. The temperature is also moderated slightly by the Irish Sea and its low level above the sea, approx 100ft. East and Northerly weather systems tend to bring dry weather, cold in winter and warm in summer. The temperature tends to vary between zero at night and 8 deg C in Winter and 8 at night and 20 deg C in Summer. With odd periods of more extreme weather. Being close to the west coast it is subject to strong south westerly winds from time to time. It is noticable on winter mornings that travelling west the frost tends to disappear about 10 miles from the sea, or 10 miles west of Preston. There appears to be less snow in this region than most of Britain, it appears to regularly occur that news reports of snow problems are issued and there is no sign of snow west of Preston. |
