Blackwell House, just south of Bowness and overlooking Lake Windermere. The Arts and Crafts movement house. Built by a Manchester Cotton Magnate and now restored and open to visitors. Nice cafe, shop, easy parking. The appeal is in the building and its decoration. It was the subject of a slide-show at the 2005 International Arts & Craft Movement exhibition at the V&A, London. A stained glass window at Blackwell by M.H. Baillie Scott was featured inside the covers of the programme of the event. |
