Glasgow

April 2003. 3 nights at the Glasgow Thistle, central. Travelled by train, standard fare £30 return. Relaxed.

Friday afternoon. Orientation to Tourist Information at George Square. Magnificent civic hall.

Photo. Visited the Glasgow Art School to see what Rene Mackintosh is about. Guided tour.

Then the Tenement block, interesting but not much like Billy Connellys interpretation - seemed quite cosy. National Trust - free to us members.

Walk up Buchanan Street, attractive pedestrianised shopping street. Look at river, no sign of QE2.

Saturday. Burrell Collection. Train to East Pollock or something like that. Walk into Pollock Park for Burrell Collection and Pollock House. Fine collection, fine building and all free. Slightly lacking something - life. Pollock House interesting National Trust - free to us members.

Angus cattle in Pollock Park. Early morning before anyone else arrives quiet walk through the park from the station to the Burrell Building. Train back Saturday afternoon full of important teenagers all on mobile phones. Amusing. Visit Modern Art Gallery - not a lot in it waste of time or is that the message.

Sunday walked west along Sauchiehall Street. Nice and quiet restored Town Houses similar to London squares, a couple of miles and you reach the Art Gallery, Transport Museum, University Art Museum, Kelvin House. Due to restoration and Sunday only the Transport Museum is open.
Transport Museum. Interesting but I'm into that sort of thing. Good cars, trains, trams and buses. Ship models don't do Glasgows heritage justice. Still havn't seen the QE2.
Buchanan Street. Fine shops and malls. Street buskers full rock band. Glasgow claims Britains 2nd best city centre shopping. I can believe it. Although Manchester has 2 Selfridges one is out of town.
Glasgow Cathedral Neocropolis. Sunday afternoon.
Havn't seen one of these for years. A tardis.
Monday morning shopping. Bought a gift pack of whisky samplers. Big spender.
