Viareggio, Lucca, Pisa

Ambleside overlooked by Wansfell Pike.

Viareggio. Nice resort west of Florence. As with most Italian resorts there are plenty of day trips.

Pisa, next stop on the train. The lean on the tower is more amazing than any photo can represent. The rest of the town doesn't offer much for the visitor.

Lucca. On the Viareggio - Pisa - Florence train. Lucca is a much underestimated town. It doesn't have a leaning tower but it makes up for this with its unspoiled Italian narrow streets, squares and churches. I'd definitely recommend a visit.

Low Sun Lucca. Trees growing on top of a tower.

Lucca. View from a tower of the rooftops. There are town walls to walk along.

We also went to Florence and Montecatine Terme which is a thermal spa with a lot of formal looking buildings.
