{"id":2876,"date":"2024-07-02T17:52:24","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T16:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madeinpreston.co.uk\/wp\/?p=2876"},"modified":"2024-07-02T22:17:17","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T21:17:17","slug":"two-more-murals-spotted-28th-june-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madeinpreston.co.uk\/wp\/2024\/07\/two-more-murals-spotted-28th-june-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Two more murals spotted 28th June 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two more murals in Preston.\u00a0 Both viewable for the delight of train travellers.\u00a0 \u00a0Although one isn&#8217;t new.<\/p>\n<p>This first one appears new and can be seen from a train inbound from Blackpool.\u00a0 Four o&#8217;clock low when you see the docks.\u00a0 Blanche Street, behind the Wheatsheaf pub, Water Lane.<\/p>\n<p>This is almost on a par with the mural &#8216;Mother&#8217; for skill and meaning and painted by the same artist, Shawn Sharpe.<\/p>\n<p>As a first thought binding Preston&#8217;s cotton mill heritage to the workers at the mill and the hand that picked the cotton.<\/p>\n<p>As another thought, a feminist feel perhaps.\u00a0 The dungaree wearing lady has a 1940s land girl style, representing the part women played in the mills and fields since industrialisation began.\u00a0 The mill is Tulketh Mill with it&#8217;s iconic chimney and tower, now a call centre.\u00a0 The lady could be Sally, pride of our Alley, hard working, tired and strong.\u00a0 \u00a0PP, or Proud Preston, with a pink background, traditionally female pink?<\/p>\n<p>The great thing about this are the multiple themes and interpretations.\u00a0 You could write a book.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2874\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2874\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a style=\"font-weight: bold; background-color: #f1f1f1; font-size: 12px; text-align: center;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.madeinpreston.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/240628BlancherStMuralPreston.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2874 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madeinpreston.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/240628BlancherStMuralPreston.jpg\" alt=\"The link to cotton - a mural in Blanche Street Preston\" width=\"650\" height=\"760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madeinpreston.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/240628BlancherStMuralPreston.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.madeinpreston.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/240628BlancherStMuralPreston-513x600.jpg 513w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2874\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The link to cotton &#8211; a mural in Blanche Street Preston<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The second mural has been there quite a while and faces the Railway Station Butler Street entrance on the side of the Station pub.\u00a0 It&#8217;s well painted with an urban feel.\u00a0 This one has been done before the recent trend for meaningful and locally themed murals.<\/p>\n<p>On close inspection it&#8217;s very well painted with a lot of detail such as the marking on the cheeks and in the blue rim.
