PNE losing their last game 0-3 at home to Sunderland. Sunderland made a late dash for the play-offs and made it. Although Coventry and Luton were promoted with Burnley and Sheffield United. It's an irritant that PNE don't make as Luton have a tiny ground probably worse than AFC Fylde's ground in the National League.

Only 4 clubs scored fewer goals than PNE. Only 6 clubs conceded more goals. A decent points haul from such a low goal performance.

Relegated Blackpool and Wigan. Not good for the north-west, although Burnley did well.

This was a season were any of the top 12 clubs could have made the play-offs. Blackburn were 7th missing out on goal difference to Sunderland.

Exciting territory with PNE threatening the play off places until recently

29th April 2023 The season falls into place. Only 1 game to go and PNE are now heading to be mid-table after another defeat, just a step too far from the play-offs.

Wigan are down. Blackpool need to score about 10 goals in one game to stay up, if the others lose.

In League One, Bolton are in the play-offs. Accrington are down. Morecambe are hanging on by a thread.

In League Two, Stockport are in the play offs. Carlisle and Salford are almost certain to be in the play-offs although Mansfield could freakishly pip one of them, Salford being most vulnerable. Rochdale are leaving the Football League.

In the National League North, AFC Fylde have been promoted, a great achievement for the newish and tiny club with a nice ground, near Kirkham. They were relegated a couple of years ago after looking like they could join the Football League.

22nd April 2023 Two more games played but only one point gained. Only 2 games to go. PNE are still only 2 points from the play offs. What a tight season 7 clubs are vying for 6th place with PNE having by far the worst goal difference. On recent form the top 6 looks fixed although WBA are the only team with 3 games left.

Burnley have promotion.

At the bottom Blackpool and Wigan are making a last minute push to get out of the relegation places. Wigan look doomed but Blackpool could just scrape it.

In League 1 Bolton are 5th and have 3 games to play, that's one more than others nearby and only the 7th club could pip them.

At the bottom Accrington Stanley could escape but look doomed having a very poor run, while Morecambe are in a relegation place but could escape.

In League 2 Stockport, Carlisle, Salford are in the play off positions. With Barrow having a commendable season. At the bottom Rochdale are going out of the Football League. That's sad, joining its neighbours Bury in non-league football.

In the National League there is no North West interest unless Wrexham can be classed as nearby, having been promoted into the Football League with their film star owners.

In National League North AFC Fylde have been leading for weeks but lost 2 games and are now one point behind the leaders who have only 1 game left, compared to Fylde's 2 games. A tight finish for the small club with a nice ground just outside Kirkham. Hope they make it.

In the Premier League Manchester City are chasing Arsenal who have had a few wobbles lately. Manchester United are currently 4th. There are 7 or 8 games to go. Everton are struggling in a relegation place.with 5 clubs in danger. Hope Everton stay up.

10th April 2023 PNE 2 Reading 1 puts PNE into 7th place, although joint 5th, on worst goal difference. Blackburn are 6th but have a game in hand on Millwall, 5th, and Preston. Norwich creeping up one point behind. PNE's Potts scores in the 92nd minute.

PNE's remaining games include their two closest rivals, MIllwall and Blackburn, and Sheffield United who might be promoted by the time they play PNE.

Amazingly Sheffield United have yet to play Manchester City in the FA Cup Semi Final which gives them a distraction.

7th April 2023 QPR 0 PNE 2 puts PNE into 8th place just 2 points behind Blackburn in the play off position with 6 games to go. PNE had 64pts last year for 12th position.. Burnley promoted back to the Premier League with a win at Middlesbrough.

31st March 2023 P37 W14 D10 L13 F33 A43 Pts51 Pos 12th

Only 4 games in March due to the international break. 2 wins and a draw before a big defeat at Middlesbrough. Greg Cunningham injured at Middlesbrough will miss the rest of the season.

28th February 2023 P33 W12 D9 L12 F30 A38 Pts44 Pos 12th

A poor start with 2 defeats including 3-0 at Burnley. Improving with 2 draws then a win.

31st January 2023 P28 W11 D7 L10 F27 A31 Pts40 Pos 11th

Only 3 games with 2 good away wins and being thrashed at home by Norwich.

31st December 2022 P25 W9 D7 L9 F23 A26 Pts34 Pos 15th

A bad month after a good spell. After thrashing high flying Blackburn at Ewood Park, losing two games at home against struggling opposition.

30th November 2022 P21 W8 D7 L6 F18 A20 Pts31 Pos 9th

A month cut short by the World Cup. Three games win 2 and lose at one at home. A game they could have won which would have put PNE in 4th position ahead of 5th by one point.

31st October 2022 P18 W6 D7 L5 F13 A15 Pts25 Pos 10th

A good haul of points in October keeps PNE in touch with the play-off places. A loss at Blackpool 2-4 slowed the trend.

30th September 2022 P10 W2 D6 L2 F3 A4 Pts12 Pos 15th

A famine month with one point. Scoring only 3 goals in 10 matches.

31st August 2022 P7 W2 D5 L0 F2 A0 Pts11 Pos 10th

Five Championship games and two EFL games in August. In the league, two wins and 4 draws with no losses and no goals against, position 10th, wasn't a bad start

A win at Huddersfield followed by a defeat in the EFL cut losing 4-1 at Wolverhampton..
